Workshops for Special Needs & Learning Disabilities

The 2020 dreams project believes that all children, regardless of their ability, have the right to experience the creative arts.

We provide workshops for young people who have moderate to profound disabilities including physical, learning, emotional and behavioural difficulties

The focus in our workshops is always on what participants can do, rather than their limitations, which always leads to fantastically creative, individual results. The activities within the workshops include all the students and independence is encouraged wherever possible as being able to complete tasks on their own gives all participants a tremendous amount of satisfaction.

Examples of our Special Needs workshops include:

  • Drama - Creative Writing, Musical Theatre, Indian/African/Folk Story telling, Acting, Improvisation, Physical Theatre
  • Dance - Street dance, Hip Hop dance, Modern dance, Creative dance, Contemporary dance, African dance.
  • Visual Arts - Photography, Film and video, Drawing, Kites, Murals, Origami, Henna painting, Puppets, Textiles
  • Music – African/Samba drumming, Singing, Harmonica, Junk/Body percussion.

All our workshops are facilitated by artists with knowledge and experience of working with Special Educational Needs. Our facilitators are able to work with a variety of abilities and create a supportive environment where self expression and the pleasures of creating are fostered.

Workshops are designed to encourage inclusion and social integration, our workshops aim to increase access to the creative arts for those with special needs and to enable the development of new skills and experiences.
